About four years ago I had sort of a freak accident that involved getting doused in about a gallon of residual-action termite poison, and I am guessing I ended up swallowing about a cup of it. It left me with long-term tongue, taste bud, and throat damage, but the worst part is that much to my horror, I have watched my once-beautiful teeth turn black and break off at the gumline one by one. For the most part I am not having any pain with this, but the pressure of chewing on my gums keeps me with an almost chronic gum/jaw infection, and the broken edges sometimes get razor-blade sharp and cut up my mouth (I have learned to round them off myself now)... I know I need to do something soon -- and I am tired of not smiling since one of the upper front ones broke off.I would like info on approx cost and timetable to have an oral surgeon cut them all out (how many procedures? how far apart? recovery time?) and some info about dentures -- especially the ones that can bu "locked/snapped" in place. I have no insurance (I work 24/7 taking care of 94-year-old grandmother with mild dementia) and would be paying cash, so costs will be important, as will time schedules (need to get started ASAP so I can smile again). I am a 51-year-old married female who is terrified of all this -- I think people (and especially dental people) are looking at me thinking I am some dope addict who never flosses, and that is what messed up my teeth. So please, be kind, and especially, be relatively low pain!! I was wanting to ease back into the real world of outside work, but I just can't do it with my teeth like this -- I like to smile and laugh a lot, but I couldn't face the horrified looks I can imagine getting -- especially in the engineering or higher-education fields where I would be applying. But mostly, I'm tired of being miserable. Thanks in advance for your info and help.
